Wineries and Breweries to Try in Luray
Luray is part of the Blue Ridge Wine & Whiskey Loop which follows all along the Shenandoah Valley. In this little pocket there are some amazing local spots where you can take in the views, sip some beverages, and relax after a long day of exploring.
Here are some of our favorite stops along the way, all within a quick drive from Hillside House and all with a little something different to offer!
Wineries
17 minutes from Hillside House
Winery and farm with excellent sips and great walking trails around the property. Great variety of wine, plus usually have live music on the weekends! Great winery to bring kids since there's a huge yard for playing and farm animals to check out as well.
23 minutes from Hillside House
Just up 340, so perfect as a first stop in to Luray from DC or after a day exploring Front Royal. Great mountain views and delicious wine, wonderful outdoor seating area.
3 minutes from Hillside House
Just across 340, this tasting room is incredibly convenient and also offers great vino! They partner with Barren Ridge, a winery out of Fishersville, Virginia and provide a great tasting menu to sample some Virginia wines. Plus they have wonderful outdoor seating with games, and on holiday or big weekends they usually have live music and food trucks.
Bonus: For some more Virginia Wines - head to The Valley Cork for local wines and great charcuterie boards (incl. a dessert one!).
Breweries
9 minutes from Hillside House
This local brewery is a favorite of ours to grab a beer after exploring Downtown Luray or a long hike in Shenandoah. They don't serve food, but Domino's does deliver to this location (ask us how we know...).
25 minutes from Hillside House
Up in Front Royal this is a great option downtown - perfect place to stop for lunch on your way down to Luray or after a day exploring Shenandoah National Park near the Front Royal Entrance. Great brewpub food and a nice patio to enjoy in the summer.
28 minutes from Hillside House
Over the mountain in Sperryville there are some amazing local shops and restaurants, but one of our faves is Pen Druid Brewery! The offer beer, wine and cider that's brewed in a unique, wild fermentation process that's more natural. Great place to learn about different brewing methods and try something different!
Distilleries
12 minutes from Hillside House
One of our favorite local spots! Tastings only, but the nicest people and some amazing whiskey and country wine. Great local setting on a beautiful farm with mountain views.
29 minutes from Hillside House
Another great option on the other side of the mountain in Sperryville, Copper Fox is a stunning building that offers distillery tours and plenty of yummy cocktails to sample. Take a tour, try a sample, a bring a bottle back to Hillside House to enjoy on the front porch.
The best part of visiting all of these places is coming back and getting cozy at the Hillside House after a day of fun, sun and a few good sips.
