Hillside House at Shenandoah

Why Visit Shenandoah National Park?

We’ve started our trip planning for 2025, and of course that means answering the age-old question of “well where do you want to go?”

And there’s a million places on our travel bucket list, from East Asia to Alaska to an NYC Christmas Vacation. But one destination is always on our to-visit list each year - Shenandoah National park.

There’s a million reasons to visit SNP - and to entice your travel planning towards Luray, we’ve groups a few of our favorites below. We hope you’ll think of Shenandoah National Park for your travel wishlist this year, cause no matter the season it’s a perfect place to get away and relax.

Breathtaking Scenic Drives

Skyline Drive, the 105-mile road that winds through the park, offers some of the most stunning vistas on the East Coast with the blue ride mountains rolling on throughout the distance.

With 75 overlooks, you can pull over to marvel at sweeping views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont region. During fall, the foliage bursts into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, making it an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Our favorite? When we stay in Luray, head up to the park with some hot cocoa and star gaze over the mountains!

Outdoor Adventures for All Ages

Whether your family includes toddlers or teens, Shenandoah National Park has trails to suit everyone. Our favorite hikes near the Luray entrance include:

- Stony Man Trail: An easy, family-friendly hike with panoramic views at the summit.

- Dark Hollow Fall: A short but rewarding trail leading to a beautiful waterfall.

- Limberlost Trail: A stroller-friendly, accessible path through lush forest.

For our favorite trail recommendations, visit our blog post on Hiking Trails.

For those seeking a more laid-back adventure, enjoy a leisurely picnic at one of the park’s designated areas or participate in a ranger-led program to learn about local wildlife and ecosystems. You can also grab lunch at the lodge at the park or enjoy a stunning view from the visitors center!
